Be Independently Balanced

So yesterday I had writer’s block. Today, I get the feeling that it has gone away into the abyss.

I digress. I have discovered that only you can make yourself happy. Once you depend on someone else for your happiness, you’ve lost focus of what is important in life. It is important to remain independent even while carrying on a relationship with another person. It’s counter productive to get into a routine of dependence on someone else. Because once you focus entirely on them, everything else around you becomes menial. And if your resonsibilities and daily habits become menial, if the other people in your life become less important than the once were, you suddenly find yourself alone. Even if you have that significant other there with you.

Writer’s Block

Oh the joys of writer’s block. I have no clue what to type into this box. It’s quite amazing that I’m even typing anything. I don’t quite understand it. It’s like you get it, writer’s block, then you start typing. And suddenly, words begin to form and you have sentences. Then paragraphs…well not yet anyway. But maybe I will get there soon. There are all sorts of things to write about, yet, I can’t come up with any specific thing, other than what you are reading now. I guess that is good enough right? I mean, what is better than writing about how you can’t think of anything to write? It’s very lame, this I know. But what else can I say?

Fuel Pump Debacle

February 24th, 2010 Jason No comments

A few weeks ago my car ran out of gas on my lunch break. My girlfriend picked me up at the gas station and took me to lunch. You ask, why didn’t I just get gas at the store? It was out of fuel!!! How unlucky I was. So after lunch she took me back to my car to fill it up with a gas can. Now keep in mind, it’s cold and raining outside. I’m trying to put fuel in my tank and end up spilling it all over myself. When I finally get back to work I reak with gasoline. Everyone who walks by my desk has a comment about the smell. A few sympathized with me, others made fun of me.

Bi-Polar Texas Weather

February 23rd, 2010 Jason No comments

The weather in South Texas is very, like my girlfriend says, “bi-polar”. Yesterday it was sunny and warm, today rain, ice, and snow fall from the sky. Winter has pretty much sucked this year. Except if you are a farmer, then you’ve been getting plenty of rain for your crops. Otherwise, the rest of us suffer miserably as we battle slick roads and fogged up windshields. If you are me, the latter is much more challenging. You see, I have no defroster in my automobile. The darn thing is broken. So instead of driving comfortably as I make my way to various destinations, I have to get hit in the face with ice blowing into my car. Why, you ask? Because I drive with my windows down to keep the windshield clear. How depressing is that? Then there is the leaky A/C unit. I have no cold air blowing in on a hot day. No, I have to drive with my windows down, again. So thankfully there are times when I have an opportunity to be a passenger in my girlfriend’s car. She doesn’t have these problems with her vehicle.

Stepping Stones

January 26th, 2010 Jason 3 comments

It’s been a while since I have had an opportunity to compose any thoughts. Now it is a new year. A time for new opportunities and new friendships. Last year was like a rollercoaster ride. This year will hopefully be more stable, or at least more sane. So far it’s looking very good.

Everything that occurs in life is a stepping stone to the next paragraph and the next chapter. Without the steps I’ve taken, I couldn’t be where I am.

The new year brings a new career, a new step in life. One without the camoflauge uniform.  Now that I am free from the burden that military life can bring, I feel free and less stressed. Although it is a bittersweet goodbye. I made many friends along my journey, but I can now concentrate more on what matters, my family.  My children need me to be there for them. And this year I promise myself that I will spend more time with them. It’s a difficult balancing act. Family, friends, work, play, and a wonderful woman. Each of these things needs time devoted to them. But there is only so much time to give. At least some of those things can be combined.

The next big step in life is my wonderful lady. She brightens my day and has a big heart. She is young and beautiful and knows what she wants. She is independent and responsible and is everything I could ask for and more. I would have never expected that a meeting on the highway would bring me someone who is so amazing. I guess that when you aren’t looking for something, you find it. Strange how that is.

Hopefully a new career and a new girl will bring more stability and help with the time I need with my family. Only time will tell if I’m taking the right steps. More steps remain to be taken however. But I can only take one at a time.

It’s Been A While

Hey all, it’s been a while since I have had an opportunity to write. I haven’t fallen off a cliff or anything, just been busy with work and stuff at home. Since I don’t have a lot of comments on my previous writings, I am assuming that no one reads this. So if you read, please say something in a comment. I don’t care if it’s positive or negative. Anything will do. Conversation is essential to any interactive website. I will try to write more so keep watching.

How Technology Has Changed Our Culture

I don’t know about you, but I have noticed a big difference between the way I was raised, and the way young people today are raised. When I was younger, I played outside most of the time during the summer. During the school year I watched TV and did homework. I didn’t even know what a computer was. I certainly didn’t have a cell phone. Texting? We wrote notes on a piece of paper. And we wrote in plain english. Had an English paper to write? Paper or a typewriter was used, which used paper of course. It wasn’t until High School that we used computers for writing papers. Then again, I went to high school before the days of Windows XP and Windows Vista. I wonder what other people my age, 26, experienced when they were growing up. Read more…

The Greatest City On Earth

August 30th, 2009 Jason 1 comment

San Antonio, Texas. This city cannot easily be described with one word. We have a varying but mostly Semi-Arid climate. Rain is hard to come buy for the most part. Usually during the Summer it’s partly cloudy and HOT. The weather in San Antonio makes it a great tourist destination year round. There are many things to do and see here. I will start with the most famous and work my way to the least famous. Read more…

Bring Major League Baseball To San Antonio

August 30th, 2009 Jason No comments

Baseball, America’s Pastime. San Antonio has the Spurs, that’s it for Professional sports. Some people want to bring an NFL team to San Antonio, but not me. Most people I know here in South Texas are Cowboys’ Fans. Good luck trying to get them to convert to some other NFL team. Not to mention that getting an NFL team here is a difficult task. The Alamodome is getting old, the city can’t really afford to build another football oriented stadium. I think the city of San Antonio would be better served by bringing in MLB.

We already have Wolff Stadium where the Missions play. Building a baseball stadium seems like it would be cheaper, maybe not though. But nevertheless, we don’t have much of a baseball presence here in the city. We do have the Missions, but come on, they are a AA team. Put an MLB team at Wolff Stadium, and you’ll sell it out. If not, build a new stadium. There is plenty of room in this city.

Even if the city doesn’t get an MLB team, we still have the Spurs. But how nice it would be to have something other than Double-A baseball. NFL is a maybe, but I’d rather have an MLB team to cheer for. Afterall, baseball is America’s Pastime.

Ready For A New Season Of Spurs Basketball

August 30th, 2009 Jason No comments

The new season is still a little over a month away. But I’m ready for it so begin right this second! The Spurs have added a few key players. And I think they will benefit the team in a significant way. So it’s going to be an exciting season of basketball. Maybe this season will be another special season to remember. I’m looking forward to sitting in my chair at home watching the game on my HDTV, ready to jump out of my seat on every bad call and every spectacular play. “Ginobli takes the rock at the top of the key, pauses, drives through the lane…oh he’s fouled on the play…it falls, and one.  Manu Ginobli is fouled on the play but he makes the basket.”.
