New NBA Season
A new season of basketball is almost upon us. For those of us in the great city of San Antonio, that means a new quest for the Larry O’Brien trophy. The front office has upgraded the roster of a Spurs team that has been showing its age of late. Richard Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, and DeJuan Blair are the notable additions that should put a spark in the lineup. It gives the Spurs something they have lacked, depth on the bench. That’s not to say that the bench has been poor, but it certainly hasn’t been up to the Spurs standards. With the injuries Manu Ginobli suffered last year, the Spurs just were not the same team. Without Manu in the rotation for a large portion of the season, the Spurs were not consistent. And when they finally produced some win streaks, Manu came back and disrupted the rotation. In my opinion they should have left him on the bench. The team was doing just fine without him. But this is a new season, a fresh opportunity to prove that they are contenders for the Finals and not just an aging NBA franchise. The Spurs will be paying the luxury tax this year, and hopefully it pays off. Only time will reveal if the Spurs can work together as a team with its new players. My guess is that it will take a month or two before they are all in sync with one another. But in this league, anything can happen on any given day. Pray that Ginobli shows signs of his former self, and that Timmy’s knees hold up for 82+ games. The Lakers look to defend their rings, and the Southwest Division looks to keep the Spurs out of the top spot. I think once the team chemistry has reached it’s full potential, that the Spurs will be a force to be reckoned with this year. Go Spurs Go!!!
