Ready For A New Season Of Spurs Basketball
The new season is still a little over a month away. But I’m ready for it so begin right this second! The Spurs have added a few key players. And I think they will benefit the team in a significant way. So it’s going to be an exciting season of basketball. Maybe this season will be another special season to remember. I’m looking forward to sitting in my chair at home watching the game on my HDTV, ready to jump out of my seat on every bad call and every spectacular play. “Ginobli takes the rock at the top of the key, pauses, drives through the lane…oh he’s fouled on the play…it falls, and one. Manu Ginobli is fouled on the play but he makes the basket.”.
I can’t predict the future, but the other teams in the West should be on their guard, the Spurs are not going to go away. They are tough, they have experience, and they have Tim Duncan. Timmy has been the anchor that has kept this team together, kept this team consistent. This season will be no different. Tony and Manu, they are just as vital to the chemistry of the team. You can’t really take away any one of the “Big Three” without collapsing the whole house of cards. That was evident last season with the injury to Ginobli. However, I think this season will be better. You can’t forsee injuries, but everyone was smart this year. Tony did play overseas, but I think the team handled his situation very well. Tim, well he’s getting old just like manu, we’ll have to watch his knees and see how they hold up. It’s a long season and time has taken its toll on the Big Fundamental. THE best power forward to ever play the game.
There are other role players who need to step up to the plate.
- Roger Mason Jr.: Needs to find some consistency in his playing ability. He’s a great three point shooter, but last season wasn’t exactly a star performance, and I think he has that potential.
- Matt Bonner: What more can I say about the Red Rocket? He’s a great three point shooter, he’s a big man. I think he can improve his defense. Actually he really needs to work on it. It’s ok, but the Spurs are a Defensive team.
- George Hill: Did great last year, great on the defensive end. Gets the steal when we need it. Could work on his offensive ability. Hasn’t been all that great. He came through a few times, but could use some of that tough love from Coach Pop. Of course, i’m sure he is already getting that.
- Michael Finley: Hmm…why did they keep him around? He’s still ok, but he’s old. Unless he can really step up in a major way, I think he will spend a lot of time on the bench. He has not been consistent at all. He’ll go on a short hot streak, then he’s cold, for a long time. Needs to flip that around.
I’ve summarized my opinions on a few key role players. I have not mentioned the new additions to the team. I can’t really speak for them until I see them perform with the Big Three. Let the new season begin!
