Burress Gets What He Deserves

Plaxico Burress was a great football player. He was NOT a great gun owner. He didn’t even have his gun in a holster. So it slipped down his pants and went off. So the safety must have been off as well. Not to mention he had one in the chamber. What a loser. Read more…

Check out these pictures, supposedly taken at the right moment. What do you think? Real, photoshop, or could some of these be stills from a video? Hmm…

A new season of basketball is almost upon us. For those of us in the great city of San Antonio, that means a new quest for the Larry O’Brien trophy. The front office has upgraded the roster of a Spurs team that has been showing its age of late. Richard Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, and DeJuan Blair are the notable additions that should put a spark in the lineup. Read more…

An Unfamiliar World

Think of the time before 11 September 2001. How long has it been now? It will be eight years this September. Remember when there was no TSA, Homeland Security, no war? It had been 60 years since there had been an attack on American soil. And now newly elected President Bush needed to take action. So we bombed Afghanistan, invaded Iraq, the War on Terrorism had begun.

Since 2001, the US has changed dramatically. From the trip to the airport, to the economy, everything has changed. The state of our Republic really cannot be blamed on any one person. It has been a collective “effort” for lack of a better word. There is no way to see into our future to detirmine what lies ahead, however we can do our part by knowing the character of the people we elect beforehand. Instead of after the fact like we have done with our current President. No one can see into his mind but God, but his fruits have shown that he is by far the most liberal leader we’ve ever seen. Only the history books will know the end result and the depth of corruption of the current administration. For now, we must continue to speak out against bad policy. Government run health care, cap and trade, bailouts, and the like. We must not let our collective voice be silenced by the media or by our government.

We have certainly entered into new and uncharted territory. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken their toll. The housing fiasco has done it’s damage on the economy. Prompting ludacris reform and government control of many areas of our economy. We live in a new world, one of evil and violence. Terrorism has changed the face of the Earth and fiscal stupidity has changed the value of our money. We certainly are living in the final days of life as we know it. It is no longer the world we lived in before the attacks of September 11, 2001.

A Gift From God

August 13th, 2009 Jason 1 comment

Children truly are a gift from God. If you’ve never had the privilege of parenting a child, you may think you know why that is, but in reality it is so much more than just a new person born into this world. Each and every baby who is born is unique. We all know this, because we are all unique. It’s not until you observe a child from birth until they can walk and talk, that you have an understanding of how great of an imagination God has.

At birth a baby can perform only a few tasks, cry, drink milk, breathe, a few other things… But as he/she grows, develops, and learns, new abilities are gained. Rolling from side to side, “low-crawling”, crawling, walking, etc. Eventually they have most of the skills necessary to function at full throttle. Participating in their lives is a joy, watching them grow up is a great and wonderful thing. As they grow older their personalities begin to surface. This is when the you realize that they are a gift from God.

Children are an amazing creation of God. It is an honor to be a parent.

Ultimate Friendship

August 9th, 2009 Jason No comments

Who is capable of being the ultimate friend? A true friend who is always there, always able to help, and always has the correct answer to your question. Not only does the ultimate friend have the correct answer, he/she cares enough to share it. So who could it be? Someone you grew up with? Someone you knew in high school? Someone from work? A family member?

Webster’s dictionary defines a friend this way: “one attached to another by affection or esteem”.  But is that an accurate definition? To find out we have to go WAY back. See the following excerpt from http://dictionary.reference.com :

“A friend is a lover, literally. The relationship between Latin amīcus “friend” and amō “I love” is clear, as is the relationship between Greek philos “friend” and phileō “I love.”"

So the defenition we have above is quite vague. A friend is someone whom we love and someone whom returns that love unconditionally. How do our friends stack up? Very few I would imagine can really live up to the true definition of a friend. Simply because most people we consider “friends” are more like people we know casually.

The Bible says this about a friend: “A friend is loving at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs 17:17 21st KJV

It also says this: “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly, and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24 21st KJV

This Friend, who sticks closer than a brother, is our Savior Jesus. (If you didn’t know that, now you do) He loves us unconditionally. He loves us so much he voluntarily sacrificed His life for our sins. How many of our friends would do that for us? Our relationship with Jesus, is the “Ultimate Friendship”. Even when we turn our backs on Him, He is there, waiting, ready to embrace us and comfort us in our time of trouble.

The verse above also says that if we have friends, we must show that we are friendly. Basically, if we have friends who love us, then we must show love toward others so that we can be their friends as well. You never know when someone is at the brink and needs to know they are loved and needs to know there is someone there who is willing to be their friend. Just as Jesus did for us. He shows us His love everyday, when we are happy, and when we are at the brink. That is the true meaning of friendship.

The Ride to Church

August 9th, 2009 Jason No comments

For the last few days driving my car has been un-eventful. Except for a slight vibration coming from somewhere. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly where though. Little did I know it would show itself this morning. Driving 70 MPH down the highway and the vibration got progressively worse, then suddenly I heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the car and I was skidding across the pavement. After regaining control I came to a stop and saw the tread from my tire laying on the yellow center stripe on 1604. The source of the vibration was finally revealed. So then came the trek to the trunk to get the spare “doughnut”. Upon close inspection of the tire, it was not in any condition to be driving on. Oh, did I mention my bumper came loose from the car? So there I was, sitting in my carw with my wife waiting on a ride to church. Thankfully there are people in my life who are there when I need them. Thanks Bro. Mike!!!
